JP Corry Achieves 'Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing' Workplace Accreditation

04 February 2025

JP Corry has been awarded Level 3 in the 'Take 5 Steps to Wellbeing' Workplace Accreditation, recognising their commitment to employee health and wellbeing. The accreditation, presented in January 2025, marked the culmination of a program that began in May 2024, in collaboration with Business in the Community Northern Ireland (BITC NI) and the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

Throughout the program, JP Corry refreshed and aligned existing initiatives with the 'Take 5' framework; Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning, & Give. Employees are encouraged to foster connections with colleagues, engage in physical activities, remain mindful of their surroundings, pursue continuous learning opportunities, and participate in community service projects both in their work lives and personal lives.

Laura Wray, HR Manager at JP Corry, highlighted the positive impact of the initiative, stating:

Take 5 has been great for us at JP Corry. It has enabled us to reassess and refresh our approach to wellbeing. We’ve been able to shift the focus off labelling everything ‘health’ or ‘wellbeing,’ as we felt that terminology was an instant deterrent to engaging our colleagues who felt ‘health and wellbeing’ wasn’t for them, as they associated those words with hitting the gym or eating ‘rabbit food.’  Utilising the ‘Take 5’ terminology connects with more people as it has a much broader concept, considering the whole person in a tangible, well-rounded, and realistic context.

JP Corry also took the opportunity to evaluate the impact of different wellbeing activities, learning what worked best for their workforce and identifying areas for improvement. This process allowed the company to evolve its wellbeing strategy based on employee feedback, ensuring that future initiatives are tailored to the specific needs of its staff.

The accreditation process, managed by BITC NI in partnership with Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, involved a comprehensive evaluation of JP Corry's workplace wellbeing strategies. This included training sessions, the development of a tailored action plan, site visits, and the submission of evidence demonstrating the company's commitment to the 'Take 5' principles.

Achieving this accreditation, JP Corry has demonstrated a proactive approach to supporting the health and wellbeing of its workforce, setting a benchmark for other organisations. Guided by their company values "decency, passion, and pride" and its ethos of "We build our future by helping others build theirs," JP Corry plans to continue building on this foundation, ensuring that employee wellbeing remains a central focus of its corporate culture and ensuring that employees have what they need to succeed.
